Definitely go out with him. You said you wanted to and his lack of popularity should not hold you back...If you really like him, it should not matter what everyone else thinks of him...I mean obviously you saw something great in him, just show them and they will like him too...Just think of how upset you would be if you found out a guy turned you down because you weren't "cool enough". It would suck, wouldn't it?..So go for it, and have a great time. Show everyone else what they are missing!..

It wouldn't be fair, or kind, to reject someone simply because of what others think of him. Be your own woman and make your own decisions. Go out with him. His inauspicious beginnings, and the fact that you very nearly gave him a miss, will be a great story to tell your grandchildren someday...

My dear you have a tough choice ahead of you... you will either start picking men based on what YOU like ,or picking them based on what you think your "friends" would like. Imagine still doing that in 5 years. I say be your own woman, and rock his world, and PS: you'd be surprised at what a slight wardrobe change, and visit to the hairdresser can do...
