If you like him, and he likes you, and going out with him would be fun -- go. I bet Bill Gates was a geek in high school too -- now he's a billionaire...

Okay, oh my gosh! I don't know if you read Luann (the comic) or not, but:..
http://www.comics.com/comics/luann/index.html..
(if you get this after May 2, go down to the calendar and click on 5/02.)..
It *may* apply to your situation, and Luann's mom has a valid point. A GREAT point...
You shouldn't worry about what other people think of him, or how they treat you. ..
..
It's YOUR love/personal life, not theirs. And if they make fun of you for who you like/love, they're not *really* your friends. ..
Although, you may have the type of friends who tease because they love, but you should be able to tell the difference between love-teasing and in-poor-spirits-teasing...
..
By the way, I got excited because I just e-mailed the artist of Luann (Greg Evans) to tell him how much I loved this particular comic...
..
And on a personal note -- I ALWAYS end up dating someone who's unpopular/dorky/geeky, but, honestly, they're often the best guys...
And it sounds like you like him, so go for it!..

I've made that mistake in the past of not going out with someone because of their social status, and man did I ever regret it. Oh what could've been. I never did make that mistake again, and honestly, the dorky one's were my best girlfriends and the ones that I remembered the most, because they have something interesting to say, without being all rehashed, hollister-esqued, usual-non-conformist...

Easy answer: give him a chance...You can either be your own person or someone else's...If you wanna be a slave to the system, then by all means check your free will at the door and someone will hand you a book detailing how you'll spend the rest of your life...
