Is it wrong? No...It's how friends who want their friendship to go to another level but realize that it's not going to happen, survive with minimal damage to their ego, self-esteem and overall well-being...
..
I imagine everyone needs time to heal from putting urself out there and being refused, even if it's done gently ... what's the alternative?..Cuz each and every time u see the two of them together it'll eat u up inside cuz ur still raw ... u need some distance and time to heal from it...

Wait, who's "comfused"?..
..
If you are interested in someone who doesn't have the same romantic feelings for you in return, and then that person gets into a relationship, then yes, you should probably do the polite thing and stop pursuing them...
..
Does that answer your question?..

What do you mean by "back away"? Do you mean keep pursuing the person that you like despite their being in a relationship? or do you mean that you back off as a friend too and withdraw yourself b/c they're with someone new? In the first place, then no it's not wrong, it's what you should do. In the second instance, it's not exactly "wrong" - it's certainly human and understandable but you should try not to, or at least explain it to the person so they're not offended. But you have to make your question clearer if you want us to be able to give you good advice, kwim?..
