I agree with Scarlett that if a man has bi or gay feelings, it is easier for him to cheat than to come out or explain himself...He may also want both female and male lovers, so he'd rather hide one from the other than come out and possibly lose one or both...I personally wouldn't want to live like that, I'd rather bite the bullet and come out so that I didn't have to hide, but it's easy for me to say because I'm not in that position...

However, in regards to your second question about trusting our instincts, we as human creatures don't want to think the worst of others...If we are in love with someone and we have an inkling that they are betraying us, we want to believe the best and think that we're just being irrational...Who wants to believe that the person they love is cheating on them? It is simply a matter of wanting to trust someone that we love, and not wanting to ruin the idea of what we have with them...
