Yes and no ... I know I know ... sometimes I even wonder if i'm that balancing sign looking at both sides instead of the practical virgo that I am (lol) .....
..
Here's what i'm thinking ... maybe people are meant to mate for life? but the definition of "mate" constantly changes .....those connections or bonds don't necessarily disappear they just change into something else .....moment to moment...Angie..

I am assuming you are referring to a soul-mate type relationship, so that is what I'll try to advise on...
..
The idea of a person who is you are meant to be with and will be happy with your entire life as been debated for centuries, along with the idea of "fate." I personally do not completely agree on this belief for a few reasons. Mainly because I have been in love few times and each relationship..had its own significance with me. Therefore the belief that only one person is out there that will be yours forever I think is false...
..
Rather I believe that there are multiple people in the world that will complete the person you are and contribute their character traits (both good and bad) to make a wonderful relationship. ..
..
If it is to last for all life, then it should not be assumed that they will always make you happy...
..
For long relationships are not about finding the person who will always make you happy, rather it is about finding a person who is worth the pain...
..
Good luck,..
-Matt..

I think it's a nice idea to have someone who will always be there for you no matter what. I just haven't found that someone yet...

I like the idea of it...I think some people can make it work, if you and the person you're with are both willing to work on things and really treat each other with respect and kindness...Which is hard to do for, you know, fifty or more years...
..
I think it's possible, but I also think some people just aren't wired for it...
..
So I say it's meant for some people....

Marriage was invented when the average life expectancy was somewhere around 30 odd yrs. Most people lived a very rural existence, with not a lot of contact with others or the outside world, the options for a mate or even choices of a mate were few (I've heard people complain that the same is true if you live in a small town). ..
..
In those days we married our daughters off at 9 and 12 yrs of age as a matter of course. You could reasonably expect to spend 20 to 25 years together with little chance of meeting anyone else interesting...
..
Biologically (and I think we all know this in our hearts) man does not mate for life, but along came religion and it's been trying to convince us otherwise now for a few millenia, and it's failing miserably. ..
..
We need to reinvent marriage, if it has any chance of surviving into the next century on a more that..symbolic basis, and I think we have to do this on an individual level because the institutions are not going to do it...
