You did the right thing. Your girlfriend couldn't have been too desperate for comfort if she stopped to dictate the means of transportation -- not to mention demanding one that involved you committing infractions. You're not a coward for not "standing up to" your parents; you're a good egg for respecting their rules ( and the law if you are uninsured/not liscenced to drive at night). If she can't understand that, and holds it against you, I'd advise you to leave for school early and enjoy all the fun of meeting some new adult women, instead of immature and needy children...

Love doesn't mean you have to be willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING in your life at your partner's whim. Love means doing the best you can to make your partner happy, which you completely did. The realities of your life prevented you from being there in 5 minutes, so what? You offered to be there in 20. That is a pretty reasonable compromise. ..
She was probably acting somewhat unreasonable because she was upset, that's understandable, and if she's mature she'll realize what a great partner she has in you...

She sounds like a total headache. I'd be glad she doesn't want to talk to you anymore. I think it's smart that you didn't just steal your parents car. And you're going off to college soon anyway. If she wanted to see you, she wouldn't care HOW you got there. She was just messing with your head and adding drama and seeing if you loved her more than your parents and were willing to risk grand theft auto or something for her...
