Maybe it's just the sorts of guys that I've dated, but I've given guys flowers and they've been well-received. There's nothing, repeat nothing, inherently girly about flowers. They've just gotten an association w/women, but historically most gardeners have been male (just as most chefs have been and continue to be male, even though lots of folks consider cooking the "woman's job." UGH). I also think it's ridiculous that men aren't "allowed" to appreciate the beauty of flowers, but then we (some of us) women get upset that men don't notice when we cut our hair or get a new dress or lose ten pounds or put on makeup. If we discourage men from cultivating an appreciation of aesthetics, then we can't really complain when they apply their ignorance of such things across the board, now, can we? Sorry, rant over, I just get po'd when stupid gender stereotypes are allowed to continue just because they've always been that way. There are plenty of women who don't like flowers, too, of course!..

in all honesty, i dont find the practicality in flowers, i mean i've received some and was touched. but I know a guy really knows and connects with me when he gives me something different, like a box of my favorite cereal. or something weird. So case in point i've never given a guy flowers.....

I've brought flowers that I got at Trader Joes over when we were cooking dinner to put in the vase for the table. I just thought it made the kitchen look warmer at his place and they lasted a week. I've done that a couple times. But I think that is different from when you call the florist and they deliver some beautiful bouquet. I've never done that but my boyfriend has done that for me for Mother's Day, Valentine's day and my birthday. I love it and I think it is a very sweet gesture...To me, it is one of those symbol of what a man does for a woman (at least in my age group) to say he loves her...

it definitely depends on the guy, of course, but the couple of times I've received flowers I've thought it was great. ..
..
my first time was from one of my first serious girlfriends. I was 18, and she gave me irises. I didn't know the name of that flower, but I learned it when she gave them to me. ..
..
her eyes were blue with flecks of yellow. (I'm sure they still are, actually, although I haven't seen her for years -- despite that flower gift.)..
..
anyway, it seemed like such a nice and sexy thing for her to do. ..
..
As a result, I still have special feelings for the iris...

I never have, but my guy actually works with plants and flowers, so he's not afraid to be associated with them or anything. Maybe I will!..
