Color me a hopeless romantic, but is there any possibility that you are misinterpreting things? The best reason I could think of for canceling your pre-emptive strike is that it might be unnecessary...Talk to your boyfriend first, see if anything is bothering him. It could very well be that he's stressed at work, having problems with his family, or otherwise preoccupied. If he denies having any problems, or if you sense that he's about to cut you down, then by all means strike first. Isn't that a woman's prerogative? But I would caution you against doing anything prematurely or assuming anything before you have all the facts in hand...

Why are you freaking out at the thought of someone breaking up with you? I think two months is way too soon for a where-is-this going conversation. But if you are flipping out, you could ask him what:s the deal. And maybe you guys could talk about what is going on and if he wants to still see you. Most importantly DO YOU still want to date him? Because don:t dump him if that is the case. But if you know you don:t want to be with him -- that is the reason to dump him. Not because he might dump you...

You're considering breaking up with someone you like just to save face? Sounds to me like..what other people think holds more importance than your own relationship. Or like there's some kind of control issue going on, that you have to be the breaker-upper. No one wants to get dumped, but it's a fact of life, it happens to almost everyone. Do talk to him about why he's been distant, and maybe give more thought to that other stuff I brought up...
